Adriene B. Bailey and Douglas J. Brittin to Strengthen Connection to Industry as Executive Directors

DENVER— The Transportation Institute at the University of Denver (DTI) is pleased to announce the appointment of Adriene B. Bailey as Executive Director of Program Development and Curriculum and Douglas J. Brittin as Executive Director of Operations. With a combined 75 years of experience, the appointments of Bailey and Brittin deepen DTI’s connection to industry and commitment to cultivating future transportation leaders.

“We’re thrilled to have Adriene and Doug share leadership responsibilities for DTI and help further our mission to develop, educate, and support emerging leaders in the transportation industry,” said Michael McGuire, dean of University College where the Transportation Institute is housed. “They bring tremendous perspective and leadership that will truly be an asset for our community.”

Building on nearly two decades of collaboration between the transportation industry and higher education, the Transportation Institute offers an executive master’s degree, educational resources, and research for industry leaders to inspire transportation solutions. The direction of DTI is guided by input from the Board of Directors.

“The professional experiences Adriene and Doug have had in the transportation industry and with the Transportation Institute itself are incredibly valuable,” said Jim Hertwig, chair of the DTI Board of Directors. “Their insights will help us move forward as we continue to deliver management development education and relevant research for our industry.”

As Chair of the DTI Board of Directors for several years, Bailey helped to elevate the awareness of DTI and strengthen connections to industry. Bailey previously served as the SVP & General Manager for Yusen Logistics (Americas) Inc. with responsibility for the company’s Transportation Business Unit and is currently the Chairman of the Intermodal Association of North America. Her extensive experience in rail, intermodal, and management consulting sectors—including senior management positions at CSX Transportation, Southern Pacific Railroad, and Pacer International—brings a unique depth of transportation knowledge to her new position. As the Executive Director of Program Development and Curriculum, Bailey will initiate student and faculty recruitment strategies, direct course content creation and instruction, and oversee the DTI scholarship program. Sharing the position with Doug Brittin, Bailey will continue her active involvement with the industry and consulting work with Brooks Davis Consulting.

“DTI is our industry’s most important asset for relevant and powerful training of the next generation’s senior transportation leaders,” said Bailey. “Together, Doug Brittin and I bring a valuable combination of experience and insight to DTI and I am excited to work together with him to expand and improve the program offerings.”

Brittin recently retired as the Secretary General of The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA), the only global trade association representing all elements of the aviation supply chain. While at TIACA, Brittin ensured the disparate needs of all segments of the aviation supply chain were successfully met. In addition to being a strong advocate for industry before global regulatory bodies, he grew membership significantly and launched professional training programs, all while reporting to a globally diverse Board of Directors. Prior to that role, Brittin served as the Director of the Transportation Security Administration’s Air Cargo Policy group in Washington, DC. Following a transportation career filled with senior leadership positions, Brittin brings a valuable skillset of budget development, management, and marketing expertise. As the Executive Director of Operations, Brittin will manage staff, budgets, and marketing, along with overseeing event and residency planning.

“I am pleased to work with Adriene to advance the goals of this tremendous program” said Brittin. “It is essential that DTI continues to grow as the leader in developing the executive-level talent to ensure the supply chain can meet the evolving economic, political, technological, and environmental challenges facing the global transportation industry.”
