The equipment, which includes approximately 60 helicopters, 400 vehicles, and other mission-essential cargo, is returning home to Kentucky following the 101st Airborne Division’s deployment overseas.
The helicopters include AH-64 Apache attack helicopters, CH-47 Chinook cargo helicopters and UH-60 Black Hawk utility helicopters. The aircraft were rolled off the U.S.-flag vessel Alliance St. Louis using the helicopters’ landing gear before being flown back to Kentucky. The other cargo was transported to its destination via rail.
Port partner Portus served as stevedore while the U.S. Army’s 597th Transportation Brigade oversaw the move.
JAXPORT is one of 17 U.S. Strategic Seaports on-call to move military cargo for national defense, foreign humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, and the only port in Florida with this designation.
