Walmart celebrated the opening of its new fashion distribution center, DC 7842, weaving together the common threads and legacy of DC 6007 and DC 6008. DC 7842 is the first fashion distribution center Walmart has opened in more than 20 years. It brings together the associates who previously worked at two facilities, DC 6008 in Bentonville and DC 6007 in Fort Smith. The event was held inside the more than 1.25-million-square-foot facility, located at 5800 SW Regional Airport Blvd. in Bentonville, Arkansas. Hundreds of the more than 500 associates who work at the $170 million facility were in attendance.

The distribution center features some of the latest equipment in apparel distribution, including a high-velocity apparel sorter, which makes the task of order filling easier and more precise. The facility also includes a next-generation shoe sorter, which requires 15 percent less space than the one at DC 6007 and makes shipping shoes easier on our associates.
“DC 7842 is another example of the work we’re doing within Supply Chain to better serve our customers with quality through innovation and process improvements,” said Greg Smith, executive vice president, Walmart U.S. Supply Chain. “I want to congratulate General Manager Wes Waddell and the entire team at 7842 for this milestone. Because of them, our customers will be able to purchase millions of quality clothing items at the everyday low prices that Walmart is proud to offer.”
DC 7842 is an example of Walmart’s commitment to lead retail innovation in every aspect of the business. The merging of two buildings enabled Walmart to create efficiencies for the company that will ultimately support Walmart’s ability to offer everyday low prices to customers. Additionally, with the greater volume of merchandise shipping from DC 7842, Walmart will be able to reduce the number of overall loads shipped while also moving freight faster and with better quality. The facility has 82 receiving and 62 shipping doors, parking to accommodate over 1,000 trailers and sits on nearly 120 acres.
As the sixth fashion distribution center in the network, DC 7842 will ultimately serve regional distribution centers in 15 states and eventually 1,000 stores, including stores as far west as New Mexico and as far north as Nebraska.
