HANSMANN Logistik GmbH is opening a new logistics centre in Flechtdorf near Wolfsburg. In future the logistics provider will supply customer-specific cable sets from the automatic small parts warehouse. Currently the technical equipment is being installed in the 10,000 square metre facility. Operation of the automatic small parts warehouse is slated to start in summer 2014.
The new logistics centre on the approx. 22,500 square metre grounds comprises a twelve metre high building in which around 200 square metres of office and staff rooms, in addition to the automatic small parts warehouse, are integrated. It provides room for 54,000 cable sets. Up to now HANSMANN has been supplying 2,200 items daily for two car models from the Hattorf location. In future there will additionally be customer-specific cable sets for two other car models. “Because of the exhausted capacity at the present site, we decided in favour of relocation, including construction of a new automatic small parts warehouse,” explains Christian Seidl, Managing Director of HANSMANN Logistik GmbH. While an investor constructs the building, the company invests in the corresponding technology, operates the warehouse and organizes the flow of material and information in three-shift operation. Approx. 50 jobs will be created at the new site. The new facility in Flechtorf, located only a few kilometres away, will be equipped with 15 racking rows, 11 modern stacker cranes, five repacking stations and a finishing workstation. After commissioning in summer 2014 around 7,000 cable sets a day will be handled. The maximum capacity is approx. 9,000 cable sets. A maximum of 90 minutes elapse between the call for cable sets and delivery to the plant. “We currently transport the parts to be delivered to the line on schedule with three trucks in 24-hour operation and thus ensure needs-oriented supply for assembly,” says Christian Seidl.
Installation of the technical equipment commenced in November 2013. HANSMANN will gradually shift supply to the customer to Flechtorf in summer 2014. “As of the end of August, we will then supply the production line completely from the state-of-the-art automatic small parts warehouse at the new location. At the same time we will also double the number of trucks deployed to six,” states Christian Seidl. The grounds in Flechtorf are located at a favourable site for transportation with direct access to the A39 autobahn. Special importance was attached to state-of-the-art technology and ecological standards in the concept and planning of the automatic small parts warehouse. Aside from a special fire protection solution based on reduced oxygen content in the warehouse, the grounds have, for example, energy-saving LED lamps in the outdoor area.
