Sea Star Line, LLC has [re]christened El Faro, the latest addition to its fleet. Formally know as the Northern Lights, El Faro will be introduced as Sea Star Line's 3rd ship in the trade between the U.S. and Puerto Rico.

The ceremony took place on January 17th at the Atlantic Shipyard in Mobile, Alabama, where El Faro is being reconfigured to meet the needs of the Puerto Rico market. The ship is being configured as a combination ro/ro/lo/lo vessel, capable of handling both rolling cargo and containerized freight. El Faro will call the Florida ports of Jacksonville and Port Everglades, along with San Juan, Puerto Rico. El Faro is scheduled to be fully converted and ready for deployment by March 1.

'These are exciting times for our company,' said Frank Peake, Sea Star Line's president and COO. 'The vessel looks terrific and the modifications now being made are certain to satisfy the unique requirements of the Puerto Rico market."
