New international airline award included this year

The Express Delivery & Logistics Association (XLA) announced the winners of the 2007 Airline of the Year Awards at the Annual Membership Meeting held during the industry's AirCargo 2008 Conference in Orlando on March 17, 2008. Awards are made to the top three Domestic airline winners, and, new for 2007, the top International airline winner. This is the ninth consecutive year XLA has made the awards.

The XLA Airline of the Year Awards are based on an annual survey of association members who use the services of carriers for their express deliveries around the world. The airlines are ranked on 250 data points within four major qualitative sections, including communications, service, web site and technology, and value, with an overlay of DOT on-time performance data.

The awards are made exclusively to XLA member airlines: Alaska Air Cargo, American Airlines Cargo, Continental Airlines Cargo, Delta Cargo, KLM Cargo, NWA Cargo, Southwest Airlines Cargo, United Cargo and U.S. Airways Cargo.

For the fourth consecutive year, Southwest Airlines Cargo took first place in the Domestic Airlines category. Chip Ponton, chairman of the XLA Airline Liaison Committee, presented the award to Matt Buckley, Senior Director of Cargo, Wally Devereaux, Director of Sales and Marketing, Colin Rogers, Senior Regional Sales Manager, John Barnes, Senior Regional Sales Manager, and Jim Doherty, Cargo Manager of Operations.

American Airlines Cargo was honored with the newly created International Airline of the Year Award, and accepting were Dave Brooks, President, AA Cargo; Linda Brown, Director Global Accounts; Taryn Phillips and Penny Mayer, Senior Managers, Global Accounts. The AA Cargo representatives also received the second place award in the Domestic Airlines category.

Continental Airlines Cargo representatives Jim Bellinder, Director of Sales, Americas, Charlie McCarthy, Regional Manager, Northeast Region, and Tony Randgaard, Manager Cargo Marketing/ Advertising accepted the XLA 2007 Domestic Airline of the Year third place award.
