The ship- ments included two oversized transformers, each weighing 80 metric tons, highlighting the specialized transportation and lifting solutions required throughout the project. Across multiple project phases, the company has managed a series of complex multimodal move- ments from China to Canada, demonstrating its expertise in planning and executing over- sized and heavy-lift cargo transportation. These deliv- eries represented a series of essential infrastructure move- ments requiring careful plan- ning, specialized handling, and coordination across mul- tiple transportation modes. Each transformer required coordinated transfers between ocean vessels, rail networks and specialized heavy-haul road transport before final installation at site. From origin through final installation, Rhenus managed the movement of oversized cargo through a care- fully coordinated multimodal transportation strategy. The operation concluded with the precise and safe placement of Rhenus provided comprehen- sive project logistics services, including transportation plan- ning, route assessments, multi- modal coordination, heavy-haul transport management, and specialized lifting operations. This integrated approach ensured the successful execution of each shipment while main- taining the highest standards the first-ever deployment of a Deck Carrier Vessel for large-scale BESS transpor- tation, establishing a new benchmark for renewable energy logistics. EXG managed the com- plete engineering and logis- tics execution, from advanced marine calculations, engineer- ing approvals, and voyage planning to full charter vessel operations, synchronized port handling, customs clearance, and final site delivery. The scope included technical assess- ments, stability analysis, deck strength calculations, stowage planning, lashing engineering, marine coordination, customs clearance, port handling, ocean transportation, inter-carting, and door delivery. As the vessel was not equipped with conventional container shoes, EXG engi- neered a customized cargo securing solution, including complete lashing arrange- ments, sea-fastening method- ology, and deck configuration specifically designed to meet Marine Warranty Surveyor (MWS) and insurance require- ments. Comprehensive deck strength calculations, spe- cialized cargo securing sys- tems, and detailed engineering assessments ensured the safe transportation of hazardous BESS cargo throughout the ocean voyage, even under demanding sea conditions. Upon arrival at India’s western maritime gateway, EXG executed synchronized discharge operations, cus- toms clearance, inter-carting, and final inland transportation using its specialized hydraulic trailer fleet. The shipment was delivered safely and efficiently to one of the world’s largest hybrid clean energy projects, ensuring seamless last-mile connectivity for all 300 BESS units while maintaining the highest standards of opera- tional safety and precision. This landmark project showcases EXG’s ability to combine engineering excel- lence, marine expertise, spe- cialized heavy transport assets, and integrated project logistics to deliver complex, high-value renewable energy cargo safely, efficiently, and at an unprece- dented scale. By executing the world’s biggest single ship- ment of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and delivering it to one of the world’s largest hybrid clean energy projects, EXG continues to support the global energy transition through innovative logistics solutions that move the world’s most critical infrastructure with precision, safety, and reliability.
