Halifax, Nova Scotia - The implementation of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement between Canada and the European Union is a positive development for Canadian importers and exporters. CETA, as the agreement is commonly known, is now in place and with that comes the reduction or elimination of a number of tariffs across a wide range of goods including seafood, agriculture and forestry. “On behalf of the Halifax Port Authority and trade partners, we would like to recognize the Government of Canada and the European Union for the tremendous determination and hard work in bringing this agreement to successful implementation,” said Halifax Port Authority President and CEO Karen Oldfield. “This has been a long journey involving multiple governments and organizations on both sides of the Atlantic, and the perseverance shown by all involved underscores the importance of international cooperation.”
