The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has introduced new environmental regulations.
Starting May 1, 2025, the Mediterranean Sea will be designated as an Emission Control Area (ECA) implementing stricter controls to limit sulfur emissions from ships operating in this zone.
The Low Sulfur Surcharge applicable to shipments from the Indian Subcontinent, the Middle East Gulf and Red Sea to the Mediterranean and North Africa will be as follows
From April 21st, 2025
- Origin range: From the Indian Subcontinent, Middle East Gulf and Red Sea
- Destination range: To the Mediterranean & North Africa
- Amount: USD 20 per TEU, on top of Basic Ocean Freight
- Amount: as per freight
The introduction of the ECAs IMO Adjustment Factor aligns with new regulatory requirements aimed at reducing sulfur emissions and protecting the environment. By adhering to these regulations, we are contributing to a healthier and more sustainable future.
