Ever Lissome, the fifth of Evergreen's 8,508-TEU containerships built by China Shipbuilding Corp. in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, will make its maiden voyage to the North America ports, commencing June 23 with Maher Terminals LLC in Port Elizabeth, NJ. The vessel is on its first voyage, having been delivered on May 15. Previously, nineteen 8,452-TEU L-type ships were delivered by Korea's Samsung Heavy Industries for Evergreen Line.   Ever Lissome is plying the AUE route (Asia-North America East Coast) via the Suez Canal calling at Xiamen, Kaohsiung, Hong Kong, Yantian and Singapore before transiting the canal and crossing the Atlantic. When the ship departs the port of New York/ New Jersey, it will continue to Norfolk and Savannah. "We are pleased to introduce our newest ships to our customers using East Coast ports," said Evergreen Vice Group Chairman Captain S. Y. Kuo. "Evergreen Line commenced its full containership service between Asia and America utilizing newly built vessels that were just one-tenth the size of Ever Lissome at Atlantic Coast harbors. Evergreen Line has been conducting a fleet renewal program designed to accommodate the anticipated trade recovery and to continue its effort to protect the marine environment with eco-friendly vessels," he added. Raymond Lin, Evergreen Group's Vice Group Chairman, who officiated at the ship's naming, noted that the world output is expected to grow by 3.6% in 2014. In addition, he noted, Clarksons expects global box trade to increase by 6% this year.    Owned by Evergreen Marine (UK) Ltd., Ever Lissome is 334.8 meters in length, 45.8 meters wide, with 948 reefer plugs. The L-class containership is fitted with alternative marine power, ballast water treatment system, electronic-controlled fuel injection engine that supports slow steaming and many more eco-friendly designs.
