Konecranes received an order for two heavy-duty industrial cranes from SSAB Europe in May 2015. The cranes will be delivered during April and May 2016 to SSAB’s mill in Raahe, Finland. The cranes will replace old cranes and they have a lifting capacity 32-140 tons. SSAB is a highly specialized, global steel company. The company is a leading producer on the global market for Advanced High Strength Steel and Quenched & Tempered Steels, strip, plate and tubular products, as well as construction solutions. SSAB Europe, one of SSAB’s five divisions, is a leading producer of highest-quality strip and plate as well as tubular products. The molten metal handling crane with 140/32 tons lifting capacity will be installed in the mixer hall and the other heavy duty slab handling crane with 50 tons lifting capacity will be installed in the cooling hall. Both cranes are equipped with Smart Features like Target Positioning, which means that from a push on a single button the crane brings the slabs to various predefined target positions. Another feature, Sway control, limits load swing by controlling bridge and trolley acceleration and deceleration. The mixer hall crane is equipped with a Remote Operating Station for the crane operator. This means that the crane operator will drive the crane from the view on the control room’s screens, which are based on camera views, without physically seeing the cranes at all. Both cranes will also be equipped with Konecranes’ TRUCONNECT® Remote Monitoring and Reporting services. These provide customers with data on actual crane usage. Based on data provided by the system, customers can make informed decisions on how to best manage their equipment maintenance investments and productivity.
