Leonard’s Express has been recognized as a 2026 “Top Company for Women to Work in Trucking” by Redefining the Road, the official magazine of Women In Trucking (WIT). WIT’s mission is to champion the employment and advancement of women in trucking, foster connections, and recognize women’s achievements in the industry.

There are a number of characteristics that distinguish companies recognized on this list, according to Brian Everett, group publisher and editorial director of Redefining the Road magazine. These characteristics include corporate cultures that foster gender diversity; competitive compensation and benefits; flexible hours and work requirements; professional development opportunities; and career advancement opportunities.

Identifying the top workplaces was a two-step process. First, WIT carefully reviewed nominations to ensure they met a minimum threshold of qualifications. Then more than 18,000 individuals from across the industry voted to select the final companies named to the list. This is the ninth year of this prestigious recognition program.

“This recognition program highlights the trucking industry leaders that are making meaningful investments in building more inclusive and supportive workplaces,” said Everett. “Companies that prioritize including qualified, talented women across their organizations are often better positioned to innovate, lead, and grow. Recognizing these companies celebrates the progress they’ve made and the positive example they continue to set for the industry.”

This year, as part of its 25th anniversary, Leonard’s Express paid tribute to two women, Patricia Johnson and Vicki Trotta, who played integral roles in launching and growing the company. Both Johnson and Trotta were instrumental in scaling the small, family-owned trucking outfit into the national transportation and logistics leader it is today. Even as the company expanded across the country, the tight-knit family culture remained a cornerstone of the organization.

For example, Pat Johnson adopted the practice of printing paychecks and personally handing them out to each employee, even after direct deposit became more common. Even after her retirement, Johnson remained actively involved in the business, offering guidance to maintain continuity while the next generation of Johnsons assumed leadership of the company.

“We strive to be one of the best places for women to work in trucking,” said Leonard’s Express CEO Kyle Johnson. “My mother was a pioneer in this industry. She was an advocate for women in the workplace and an equal partner in our company’s success. To be recognized with this prestigious award is a direct result of her efforts and a testament to our employees, who demonstrate our family values every day.”

The 2026 top companies are comprised of a diverse range of business sectors in the commercial freight transportation marketplace, including motor carriers, third-party logistics companies, and original equipment manufacturers. These companies will be recognized at the upcoming WIT Accelerate! Conference & Expo Oct. 25-28 in Dallas, Texas.
