Millbrook, NS – Millbrook First Nation has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Halifax Port Authority. The agreement was signed today by Millbrook First Nation Chief Bob Gloade and Halifax Port Authority President and CEO Karen Oldfield. The MOU outlines how Millbrook First Nation and the Halifax Port Authority (HPA) will pursue the potential of Millbrook infilling a portion of the Tufts Cove waterlot adjacent to the existing Millbrook land at Shannon Park. The waterlot is under the administration of the HPA. “This is a very positive development,” said Chief Bob Gloade. “The potential use of this waterlot would complement our existing land and allow us to move forward in our long-term planning and vision for this site.” “We are working together to explore options that will unlock the potential of this waterlot,” said Karen Oldfield, President and CEO, Halifax Port Authority. “Our goal is to find a solution that will benefit the members of Millbrook First Nation and support community development.” The Memorandum of Understanding will continue for a period of two years during which time Millbrook First Nation and the Halifax Port Authority will fully explore the conditions involved in entering into an extended lease.
