Update will guide future development in harbor

The public is invited to a meeting scheduled Aug. 30 to gather input for an environmental study of an update to the Port of Long Beach’s Master Plan. The Master Plan defines long-range goals and policies for land use and development within the harbor district.

As a first step in the process, the Port today released a Notice of Preparation (NOP) for the Port Master Plan Update Program Environmental Impact Report (PEIR). The meeting, where the public can submit comments and suggestions on which environmental issues should be examined in the PEIR, is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, at the Michelle Obama Neighborhood Library, 5870 Atlantic Ave., Long Beach 90805. An open house will be held prior to the meeting at 6 p.m.

The Port’s Master Plan was last revised in 1990. The Master Plan Update is needed to incorporate previous amendments to the document and to reflect changes in the global shipping industry. The PEIR will evaluate the potential environmental impacts of adopting and implementing the proposed update.
