RIPEC's Executive Dir. John Simmons presents the Gary S. Sasse Award to Quonset's Managing Dir. Steven King
Steven King, Managing Director of the Quonset Development Corporation (QDC) was honored last night by the Rhode Island Public Expenditure Council (RIPEC) for his distinguished career in public service. King was awarded the prestigious Gary S. Sasse Distinguished Public Service Award at RIPEC's 73rd Annual Meeting held at the Rhode Island Convention Center.  "Under Steven King's tenure at Quonset, the former Naval facility has undergone an incredible transformation of job growth and economic development," said John C. Simmons, executive director of RIPEC. "Steve has worked tirelessly over the years to make Quonset Business Park the nationally-recognized engine of economic success that it is today and he is one of the most dedicated public servants we have in Rhode Island." The Sasse Award is given in the name of RIPEC's former executive director, a staunch advocate of public service. Several nominees were reviewed by the Selection Committee based on the following qualifications: sustained superior performance in the service of the Rhode Island taxpayer; fiscal responsibility and business acumen; record of integrity and devotion to public service; personal initiative and resourcefulness; and overall diligence and productivity of his career.  "I would like to thank all the members, officers and directors of RIPEC for this honor," said King. "I would [also] like to thank my team at Quonset for their commitment to Quonset Business Park and the State of Rhode Island. The team at Quonset enthusiastically embraces the "Can Do" spirit of the Seabee heritage and works every day to improve and advance the Business Park." "Quonset is a great example of all that's possible in Rhode Island. It's success reflects a generational commitment that should not be lost on any of us," King added. "Quonset reflects how investing in our State's assets will help our economy grow and create a platform for private sector job growth."
