New restrictions on Americans’ travel to Cuba will be enacted Thursday, the Trump administration said, and the U.S. also published a list of companies and other entities alleged to be controlled by the Cuban government that are forbidden from doing business with American citizens. President Donald Trump announced in June that he would restrict his predecessor Barack Obama’s diplomatic opening to Cuba. “We have strengthened our Cuba policies to channel economic activity away from the Cuban military and to encourage the government to move toward greater political and economic freedom for the Cuban people,” Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said in a statement. The new rules, announced Wednesday, require Americans engaging in “people-to-people” or educational travel to visit Cuba as part of tour groups assembled by authorized organizations. Representatives of the tour agencies must now accompany American travelers to the country.
