Since the beginning of March 2015, TX Logistik AG (TXL) has ramped up their rail link between Herne (Germany) and Malmö (Sweden) from six to eight departures per week. “This consolidates our position as the strongest provider for the Nordic countries” explains Jörg Nowaczyk, Intermodal Divisional Director at TXL. “If the current demand continues, we will plan additional departures.” This relation between Germany and Sweden is mostly used for transporting trailers with all types of consumer goods. This great demand is not based on the German market alone. Jörg Nowaczyk: “We are acting as a neutral provider. Our train is open to anyone. This option is used by numerous Dutch transport companies having their goods transported to Scandinavia.” Even trailers from Italy, which TXL drives from Busto via Cologne to Herne, are forwarded to Sweden from there. “We want to develop Herne’s hub function in our European network further” says Jörg Nowaczyk – last but not least, also with regard to connections from Scandinavia all the way to France or Spain. Apart from the relation Herne - Malmö, TX Logistik’s European network regularly links Scandinavia with Italy – for example, by running intermodal trains between Padborg/Denmark and Verona/Italy, as well as between Halden in Norway and Verona. Additionally, the railway logistics company, with its own license and safety certificate, also handles domestic Swedish traffic between Malmö and Eskilstuna as well as between Malmö and Stockholm. Just recently, the Scandinavia specialist also launched a new connection from Lübeck to Sweden. Since February, the intermodal train ‘Alter Schwede’ (‘Old Swede’) runs from Lübeck via Halmstad to Årsta near Stockholm three times per week. The company also expects future growth from the continued use of the new NiKRASA transfer system, which allows for easy and efficient loading of non-craneable semi-trailers onto standard rail carrier wagons without any changes to the equipment and business processes. At present, 70 NiKRASA transport platforms are already in use. For the relation Herne - Malmö, the dispatch of the first transports using the NiKRASA transfer technology is already being planned.
