DB Schenker is pooling its ocean freight solutions tailored to the special needs of the beverage industry - from alcohol-free soft drinks through wine and sparkling wine all the way to liquor - under the new product name DB SCHENKERbeverages. With the change in name, the specialists at DB Schenker are catering to customer wishes in the sector. Until now, the service was offered as DB SCHENKERwine.

"The new product name is a simple necessity. Both importers and winemakers as well as retailers and producers of soft drinks and high-quality liquor have long relied on our extensive experience for distribution of their fine products," explained Diederick de Vroet, the Head of DB Schenker Logistics' worldwide ocean freight activities who is also responsible for this offer, on the occasion of the ProWein trade fair in D'sseldorf. "Our service offer tailored to the requirements of sensitive wet goods has made us a sought-after partner in the beverage industry for many years now." Each year, DB Schenker transports over 40 million bottles of wine destined for the German market alone.

Manufacturers, retailers and importers of liquor, wine, beer, water as well as soft drinks and popular drinks benefit from DB Schenker's many years of experience when importing or exporting their products. Ensuring that drinks from all over the world reach the end consumer requires custom-tailored solutions from a single source. "We have a dense worldwide network of sites with native speaker employees who are experts in the industry and have the necessary logistics know-how," underscores de Vroet. "We offer a full range of services from a single source, handling commissioning and temporary storage in the country of production or destination along with temperature-controlled transports by land, sea or air as well as all customs and insurance formalities."

Wine customers also benefit from the DB SCHENKERsmartbox service, in which containers with highly valuable contents are tracked worldwide in real-time. Parameters such as temperature, humidity, door alarms and vibrations are measured by sensors and transmitted together with the respective position information via GPS, thereby helping to ensure quality. Special logistics centers oriented to the unique needs of the beverage industry are used for interim storage, demand-based commissioning and transshipment.
