The international transport and logistics company Gebrüder Weiss, broke ground for the new Bulgarian branch in Elin Pelin near Sofia at the end of February. The new construction will replace the existing site in Sofia and serve as a new distribution centre for the Balkans and Central Asia. The completion is scheduled for the end of 2014. Within the next couple of months, a modern logistics centre with logistics warehouses (6,000 m2), handling areas (1,880 m2) and office space (1,300 m2) will be constructed at the site which covers a total area of approximately 57,000 m2. “In addition to an ideal infrastructure, the new distribution centre in Elin Pelin offers above all more space for the logistics business and the transhipment towards the Balkans and Central Asia. Its role will be to drive forward the current growth in these regions. Moreover, the centre will be an important interface for the most recent branches in Turkey and Georgia,” says Thomas Moser, Regional Manager South-East/CIS for Gebrüder Weiss. The layout of the new premises allows for further growth in the coming years. The headcount will be increased from the current 60 to 90 employees once the new construction is completed. The investment volume for the new facility is roughly 8 million euros. “At our modern distribution centre, the entire service portfolio of Gebrüder Weiss will be offered – ranging from land transports and air and sea freight to individual logistics solutions. Here, all services will be implemented with the usual high quality standards of Gebrüder Weiss,” says Marieta Grigorova, Country Manager for Gebrüder Weiss Bulgaria.
