Detailing total U.S. logistics spend, providing a snapshot of logistics growth by sector, as well as trends and insights into the rapidly changing e-commerce, tech/innovation and regulatory environment, the 28th Annual Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) State of Logistics Report published this week. Being presented today at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., the report – authored by global consultancy A.T. Kearney, presented by Penske Logistics – is now available to CSCMP members. Here are some sample highlights included in this year’s report:
  • Air freight volumes surged in late 2016 as distribution in ocean shipping temporarily offset chronic overcapacity in airline cargo holds.
  • Demand for air freight is expected to be strong for the next five years, powered by e-commerce and pharmaceutical shipping.
  • Airline pricing dynamics further depress air cargo rates
  • Freighter airlines transport more than 70 percent of all cargo shipped on the two largest routes: Asia to North America and Asia to Europe.
