HDR has named Richard Crowther regional maritime director for Europe and the Middle East, strengthening the firm’s commitment to maritime and transportation clients across the region.
A chartered civil engineer with 17 years of experience, Crowther has worked across the full life cycle of port and marine infrastructure, including due diligence, feasibility studies, master planning, design, construction supervision and contract administration. His international project experience spans container terminals, dry ports, liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities, marinas and associated landside infrastructure. He has also built and led a multidisciplinary maritime team of more than 60 engineers and technical specialists in the Middle East.

“HDR has built an impressive maritime and transportation practice in the United States, with the technical expertise and multidisciplinary capabilities needed to address complex infrastructure challenges,” Crowther said. “I’m excited to be part of the initiative to expand those capabilities in Europe and the Middle East, working alongside our teams to build lasting client relationships and deliver high-quality solutions for ports and maritime infrastructure across the region.”
Blair Garcia, HDR’s global maritime director, said Crowther’s combination of technical expertise, regional knowledge and experience developing maritime teams will be important as the practice grows.
“Richard understands both the technical demands of major maritime infrastructure and what clients need from a trusted consultant,” Garcia said. “His leadership gives us an opportunity to connect HDR’s established maritime expertise with our growing presence outside North America, bringing more of our capabilities to clients in these markets.”
