WASHINGTON, D.C. - In a letter to the Chairman and Ranking Member of the Senate Finance Committee, the National Customs Brokers & Forwarders Association of America, Inc. (NCBFAA), expressed its strong support for President Trump's nominee for CBP Commissioner, Kevin McAleenan. "The past several years have been extremely challenging to both our members and CBP alike," wrote NCBFAA President Geoff Powell. "McAleenan has been at the center of these challenges and exercised the strategic vision and operational know-how to lead the agency to a successful resolution." McAleenan has been the Acting Commissioner since former Commissioner Gil Kerlikowski left at the end of the Obama Administration. Prior to that, he had served as Deputy Assistant Commissioner, Office of Field Operations since July 2010. NCBFAA is urging the Committee to hold a confirmation hearing at its earliest opportunity. In closing, Powell remarked, "Kevin McAleenan has demonstrated leadership within CBP that gives us confidence in the agency and should provide you assurance that it will meet its responsibilities in enforcement and in the facilitation of trade. NCBFAA is strongly supportive of his nomination."
