XLP members Khimji Ramdas Shipping LLC ( KRS), Oman, and Ceekay Shipping, United Arab Emirates jointly executed the end-to-end Multimodal Logistics ex Central Oman, of a 1500 HP Geo-Thermal Rig and its accessories from to Philippines.

The shipment has 144 pieces/7000 cbm/85 trailer loads of varying sizes and shapes.

KRS was in charge of all operations in Oman including, Route survey for the OD Cargoes, Cargo sorting, Segregation, and Labelling, Packing list preparations, customs clearance, loading, Haulage of the OD and the In gauge cargoes, Oman port handled and arranged the Marine Warranty Surveyor, while Ceekay Shipping handled the Rig Packing and the vessel fixture to Philippines.

The Rig was Crated and Seaworthy packed by our Inhouse Rig packing team who were relocated to Oman for this project for a period of 25 days.

The Rig Packing list creation, packaging was done in the presence of shipper appointed Marine Warranty Surveyors.

The Shipment was executed with planning to move 85 truck loaded from Nizwa and Muscat to an intermediate storage yard in Sohar port area, to counter the shortage of storage space in the shippers yard.

In execution of the haulage the partners had to negotiate a number of challenges, the major one being preparation of customs documentation and the packing list. The Rig being refurbished in Oman with multiple Country of Origin cargo , customs declaration was required to be made separately for the Oman made and Non Oman made cargo and KRS customs documentation team worked with the shipper and identified each cargo “ made-in” origin to solve the challenge successfully.

The Rig being in fully assembled condition and needing to be dismantled fully the packing list preparation was another challenge as it was not a known fact to the shipper, who were not the manufacturers of the rig, about the dimension/weight of each piece . KRS availed the services of a professional surveyor to overcome this challenge.

Jointly overcoming all challenges, KRS and Ceekay ensured timely port gate-in of the Rig and its packages, inspite of a shortened timeline to align to the revised lay-can of the vessel .

The vessel was chartered by Ceekay on the basis of Last In First Out terms within a shorter timeline to match up with the Rig decommissioning date in Oman and the requirement date in Philippines. A Multipurpose, heavy lifter, Tween decker, Fully Box vessel equipped with 2X250 MT cranes was chartered for the shipment by Ceekay shipping while Khimji Ramdas Shipping took over the vessel husbanding as well as the MWS scopes as well at the Omani Port of Sohar.

Challenges faced were escalated due to the issues in the Red Sea due to which there is a severe shortage of available vessels suitable for the shipment during the lay can expected by the end client. Ceekay shipping did an excellent management of the vessel charter and the industrial packing services while Khimji Ramdas Shipping matched up for the other local scope in order to complete the entire project to the perfect satisfaction of the end clients .

The project was another example of the strength we synergise at XLP – together we strive forward……..
