Trois-Rivières launches big breakbulk terminal

Mid-way between Montreal and Quebec City on the St. Lawrence River, the Port of Trois-Rivières has inaugurated a breakbulk terminal operated by Logistec Corporation that entailed investments exceeding US$22 million (C$27 million). Ninety per cent of the port’s three million metric tons of cargo is related to international trade, with the breakbulk component steadily rising.

Yang Ming & The Alliance launch fourth weekly service for Prince Rupert

The Port of Prince Rupert, DP World Prince Rupert and CN have announced a new weekly marine carrier service at the Fairview Container Terminal. Yang Ming and its partners in THE Alliance, Hapag-Lloyd and Ocean Network Express, have added Prince Rupert as the first North American port of call on the amended PS8 trans-Pacific service this spring.

Prince Rupert and Vancouver confront growth challenges

For Canadian ports on the Pacific Coast, spring did not come soon enough, though its arrival was certainly welcomed. A particularly harsh winter throughout Western Canada notably affected railway operations which in turn provoked serious congestion problems for shippers at the key British Columbia gateways of Vancouver and Prince Rupert already coping with growth management challenges.

Desgagnés launches world’s first polar class, dual fuel product/chemical tanker

Quebec City-based Groupe Desgagnés has christened and launched in Montreal the M/T Mia Desgagnés, the world's first polar-class dual-fuel oil/chemical tanker. It entailed an investment of C$50 million, including some C$9 million for the dual fuel/LNG equipment. Desgagnés operates a fleet of some 21 vessels deployed on North American, Arctic and overseas trades.
